Watermead Day Nursery - Our Story

Best of all parents love us...

The original Watermead Day Nursery was designed and built by my father Peter Allen next door to the original family property back in 2004.  Since then it has matured into a family run, Ofsted Oustanding facility of which we are immensely proud.  Such has been its popularity that in 2016, after much soul-searching, it expanded to include our family home, Brook Farm House.

Combined, the two properties now offer childcare from birth to pre-school years in a stimulus rich environment we don’t think is matched in the region.  We pride ourselves on offering the best childcare in the most stimulating, safe and secure environment, where children can have the best experiences.  We firmly believe this dedication to childcare, which we insist upon from all involved in Watermead, reflects in the positive feedback we receive from not only our own children, Sienna and Scarlett who regularly attend but also from all the other children at the setting.

Being parents ourselves has helped to shape the nursery, the philosophy and ethos and we are the only nursery in the region who actively follows the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. This is an innovative and inspiring approach to early childcare education which uses the children’s deep curiosity to drive their interest and to help them understand their world and their place within it. It fundamentally allows the child to construct their own learning and gain understanding through their individual interests, with an emphasis on hands-on discovery.  This encourages children in our care to use all their senses and all their languages to learn and is epitomized in the poem "The Hundred Languages of Children

“Both of our children have had a brilliant time at watermead. The staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble, and have helped both our children develop into confident, bright, outgoing children. We have enjoyed watching their development during their time here and will miss everyone when our son leaves for school in September.”

What also makes us stand out from the other providers is our attention to staffing, and what the best staff in the business can bring.  We are extremely proud of the staff we have at the nursery.  We have an in-house chef, responsible for producing a home-made, nutritional and healthy menu, a pre-school qualified teacher, who helps smooth the transition from nursery life to full time education and a sports coach, who runs in-house sports and physical education sessions.  We run regular movement and music classes through Kimble’s and have an extensive forest school using both the nursery facilities and the local Outwoods to further develop and stimulate the children.

Hopefully this gives you a flavour of what we try to provide at Watermead and coupled with the web site provides you with all the information you need to choose Watermead Day Nursery to care for your children.  Hopefully it shows you how passionate we are about childcare, and how this passion is reflected in the standard of care we provide.  If you are in any doubt then please pick up the phone or, even better, pop in and have a look around.  We are always willing to discuss your needs, and show off what we have built or if you want more information on our ethos and philosophy then please don’t hesitate to contact us on 01509 239205 or message us and we'll be more than happy to help.
